[EXT] 2026 CodeMeta Workshop@RSECon26
Making Research Software FAIR with CodeMeta, at RSECon26
Software Heritage is running a workshop at this year's RSE Conference, hosted by the Society of Research Software Engineering, 9 September 2026 in Sheffield.
Research software metadata is often scattered across formats, which makes it hard to discover, cite, and reuse software properly. CodeMeta addresses this with a standardised, machine-readable vocabulary built on schema.org, acting as a metadata exchange layer between repositories and tools.
Split into two parts, the workshop will cover
(i) the CodeMeta schema and its core concepts,
(ii) generating codemeta.json files automatically with tools like autocodemeta and GitHub Actions,
(iii) mapping metadata from other schemas into CodeMeta through structured crosswalks and SSSOM, and
(iv) where large language models can and cannot help with that mapping work. Hands-on exercises throughout, no prior knowledge of CodeMeta required.
Delivered by Linda Angulo Lopez (Software Heritage) and Esteban González Guardia (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM), with Anas El Hounsri (UPM)), Aida Jafarbigloo (Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg), and Daniel Garijo Verdejo (UPM).
